Your public site

Your organization's address is your subdomain (your-org.organizeos.org) and any custom domain you connect. It shows one of three things: your profile page, your Website Lite site, or your Website, built with the full website builder. The Website section of your workspace sidebar is where you choose which one people see, build your pages, and run your shop. Use this doc to find your way around, then follow the linked docs for each part.

Finding your website tools

Select Website in your workspace sidebar. It opens with Overview, which shows what people see at your address and lets you change it (see below). The rest of the section is in three groups:

• Site: Profile, your ready-made profile page (owners and admins; see Your profile page); Pages, every public page your org has created; Content, your collections (see Content collections); and Embeds, your reusable forms and widgets (see Embeds).
• Shop: Products, Orders, Storefront (the public page your shop sells from), and Shop settings (owners and admins). Shop used to be a tool of its own in the sidebar; all of it lives here now. See Setting up your shop.
• Settings: Style, your Website Lite site's look, and Settings, with tabs for Visibility, SEO, Domain, Analytics, and Advanced (see Site settings). Both are for owners and admins.

Pages lists your homepage, custom pages, donation pages, signup forms, and your unsubscribe page. Each row shows the page type, its current status (live or draft), and when it was last edited.

While your Website is what people see, the section changes shape. Profile stays at the top of Site, followed by Content, and Forms & donations replaces Pages: it lists only the pages OrganizeOS keeps serving on your domain, such as donation pages and signup forms, which you link to from the builder. Your Website Lite homepage and custom pages are kept out of sight and return if you switch back. The Shop group stays as it is, because your shop and checkout still run on OrganizeOS. Style goes: those pages, and the forms you embed, take their colors, fonts, and logo from your brand under Administration, then Brand (see Your brand). Your Website Lite style is kept and returns if you switch back. Domains replaces Settings, since visibility and SEO live inside the builder.

On a phone, Website shows Overview, Profile, Products, Orders, and Shop settings. The page editors and lists need a larger screen.

What people see at your address

Your address shows exactly one of three options at a time. Website, then Overview lays them out side by side, simplest first, in a section named for your address (for example "What people see at your-org.organizeos.org"):

• Profile page: a ready-made page built from your organization's details, links, and events, with nothing to design. See Your profile page.
• Website Lite: a site you put together from ready-made blocks in the page editor, with your homepage, custom pages, and Style.
• Website: the full website builder, for designing every part of your site. It needs the Core plan or above.

Each card shows a small picture of the option and a status: Live, Ready, Not published, Not set up, Core plan (your plan does not include the website builder), or Plan lapsed. The live card is outlined. The buttons on each card depend on its state:

• Profile page: Edit profile, and Make live, or Turn off while it is live.
• Website Lite: until your homepage is published, Edit homepage and the note "Publish your homepage to use it." Once it is published, Edit pages, plus Make live when it is not the live one.
• Website: See plans when your plan does not include the website builder, Set up the builder when it does and you have not set it up, and Open builder once it is set up. A published Website shows Ready and the note that your current site stays at your address: publishing from the builder doesn't put your Website live yet.

Switching what is live

Make live and Turn off ask first, and the dialog says what visitors will see instead. Switching deletes nothing: your profile page, your Website Lite pages, and your Website are all kept, and you can switch back at any time.

Turning off the profile page shows your Website Lite site if its homepage is published. Otherwise visitors see an OrganizeOS placeholder page. That placeholder is also what they see when nothing is live yet; Overview says so and offers Make my profile live, the quickest way to have something at your address.

While your organization is under review, visitors see a holding page whatever you choose. Overview says so, and your choice goes live as soon as your organization is approved.

What publishing changes

• Publishing your Website Lite homepage also makes Website Lite what visitors see, so there is no separate switch to remember. If your profile page is live, the homepage editor asks first and says your Website Lite site will replace it; your profile is kept. Once your homepage has been published, setting Status to Published on the Visibility tab of Settings does the same.
• Publishing from the website builder prepares your Website. It doesn't change what visitors see: whatever is live at your address stays there.

To go back to your profile page or your Website Lite site, select Make live on its card.

Your address

The Your address section lists your OrganizeOS address and any custom domains you have connected, each with Copy and Open. Owners and admins also see Manage domains, which takes them to your domain settings. Visit site, at the top of the page, opens your address in a new tab.

Who can change it

Only owners and admins can change what is live, set up or open the website builder, edit the profile page, or manage domains. Others who can open Website see the same cards without those buttons.

Moving to the full website builder

On the Core plan and above you can move to Website, the full website builder, where you design every element of your site with complete control over layout, style, and content.

1. On Website, then Overview, select Set up the builder on the Website card, and confirm. Nothing changes for your visitors yet: they keep seeing what they see now, and your Website Lite pages and your profile page are kept.
2. Select Open builder and build your site. Until you publish, the card shows Not published and the note "Publishing from the website builder prepares your website. It doesn't go live yet."
3. Publish from the website builder. The card shows Ready, and visitors keep seeing what they saw before.

Select Open builder on the card at any time to keep working on your site.

Your donation pages, signup forms, petitions, shop, and volunteer sign-up will keep working at their existing addresses on your new site, so you can link to them from any page you build. Your custom domain stays connected as well, and is managed under Website, then Domains.

Your Website is kept as you build it, and so are your profile page and Website Lite pages. If your plan stops including the website builder, the card shows Plan lapsed and offers See plans so you can upgrade to keep editing your Website.

Page types you can create

Each page type has its own editor and its own public URL.

• Custom pages -- Freeform public pages you build from structured sections (Hero, Issues, Endorsements, Stats, and more). Add one from Pages with + New page, then Custom page. See Custom pages.
• Donation pages -- Give supporters a place to contribute to your organization or a specific cause. Add one from Pages with + New page, then Donation page. See Fundraising pages.
• Signup forms -- Collect contacts from your public site; submissions create or update records in your CRM. Create them from Embeds with New embed. See Embeds.

Your homepage

While Website Lite is what people see, your homepage is the first page at your address. It is the Homepage row at the top of Pages: select it to open the homepage editor, build it the same way as any other page, and select Publish when it is ready (see What publishing changes).

You can also serve a custom page at your address instead. Open a published custom page's row menu in Pages and select Set as homepage; Remove as homepage undoes it. That page shows at your address while your Website Lite homepage is not published, which suits an organization that builds only custom pages.

Site settings

On Website Lite, Settings holds the options that apply to your whole site. Owners and admins can open it. It has five tabs:

• Visibility. Who can see your site (anyone, members of your organization once they sign in, or owners and admins only), and whether it is published or a draft. Your site first goes live when you publish your homepage: open it from Pages, then select Publish. After that you can switch it between Published and Draft here. While it is a draft, the settings on the SEO, Analytics, and Advanced tabs don't reach your pages. Until your organization is verified your site stays a draft, even if you choose Published, and the page tells you so. Publishing here makes Website Lite what visitors see, in place of your profile page if it was live.
• SEO. The title and description search engines show, with a preview; the image shown when your homepage, custom pages, donation pages, or signup forms are shared, which you upload here; and whether search engines may crawl your site. A page with its own image uses that instead, and donation and signup pages can also set their own title and description. Links to your social profiles are on your profile: see Your profile page.
• Domain. Your subdomain, and your custom domain if you connect one.
• Analytics. A Google Analytics 4 measurement ID, or the domain you added to Plausible.
• Advanced. Your own HTML for every page, such as verification tags or a chat widget. Available on the Core plan and above.

Visibility, SEO, Analytics, and Advanced save together: a bar appears at the bottom of the page with Save changes and Discard. A field that needs fixing is marked, its tab shows a red dot, and the bar names the tabs to fix before you can save. If a tab can't be saved, the others still are, and the message lists the tabs to try again. When you are publishing and another tab can't be saved, your site is not published, so it never goes live without its settings. Domain changes save on their own.

On a site built with Website, the entry is Domains and shows only your domain, since visibility, SEO, analytics, and custom code live inside the builder.

Style and custom domains

On Website Lite, Style controls the look of every public page. It applies only while Website Lite is what people see: when your profile page or your Website is live, the pages OrganizeOS serves on your domain take their look from your brand instead. Owners and admins can edit it. The page has four sections, each with a live preview:

• Colors. By default your site follows your brand's colors and fonts. Turn off Use my brand colors and fonts to set the seven-color palette here; an empty color keeps its default.
• Typography. The heading and body fonts, from the same list as the Brand page, when the site has its own fonts.
• Header logo. A wide logo for your site's header and footer. Leave it empty to use your brand logo, which the section shows. Uploads save as soon as they finish.
• Layout and components. Content width, and the style of cards, buttons, corners, images, and call-to-action buttons.

Changes other than the header logo save together: a bar appears at the bottom of the page with Save changes and Discard. Your public site is always shown in light mode.

On the Free plan, the palette, the header logo, and the content width are locked, and typography offers the curated fonts only; component styles are available on every plan. Your site can still take your brand's colors and fonts on any plan while Style follows your brand.

Like Style, the SEO, analytics, and custom code in Settings belong to your Website Lite site and apply only while it is live.

Custom code is paused for now: it isn't added to any page of your site. Scripts on your site could read the OrganizeOS sign-in of people who visit, so it stays off while we make it safe. Any code you save in Settings, on the Advanced tab, is kept and starts running again when it is.

Why this matters

Your public site is often the first thing a potential supporter, volunteer, or member sees. A clear page at your address, an easy donation path, and a signup form people can find lower the barrier for people to get involved. The profile page gives you something to share from day one, and when you need more, Website Lite and the full website builder are one switch away, with nothing lost along the way. The Website section keeps all of this in one place so you can publish quickly and update often as your org's needs change.
