Bringing your members onto OrganizeOS
What your members get when your organization moves to OrganizeOS, how they join, and how to invite them one at a time or from a spreadsheet.
OrganizeOS is not only for your team. Your members get their own place to see what your organization is doing and take part, with one account for every organization they belong to. This page covers what they get and how to bring them in.
What your members get
- One account. A member signs in once and sees every organization they belong to. They can sign in without a password: the Magic Link tab on the sign-in screen emails them a link and a 6-digit code. See Getting started.
- Your member space, at
app.organizeos.org/yourorg/member. It opens on a dashboard of their membership and your upcoming events, with My Membership (their tier, its benefits and their dues), Events, Leadership, Communities and Donate. When you turn on your volunteer tools, it also carries My Tasks, My Hours, Canvassing, Phone Banking, Texting and the Leaderboard. See Your member space. - A personal dashboard across all their organizations: upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, Explore for finding organizations, their profile, and an Inbox of direct messages and notifications.
- Any device. OrganizeOS works in any web browser, on a computer or a phone, so nobody needs to install anything. A Windows app is in beta under Get the apps in the account menu. See Installing the apps.
Your public site stays open to everyone, member or not: people can donate, sign up and find your events there without an account. See Your public site.
Decide how people join
Under Administration, then People, the Join mode setting decides what happens when someone finds your organization and asks to join:
- Open: anyone signed in can join straight away.
- Request: people ask to join, and someone on your team approves them.
- Invite-only: only people you invite can join.
With Request, open People, then Requests to approve or decline each one; requests also appear in your Inbox. People find your organization through Explore or a link to its profile page, and join from there. See Join an organization for what they see.
Invite people
Invitations work whatever your join mode. Open People, then Invites. Owners, admins and teammates whose role can invite members see this page.
One person. Choose Send invite and enter their email address, and their name if you like. Choose their Position (Volunteer, Staff, Board and so on) and their Role. The form tells you before you send whether they will use the member space or be able to open your workspace: for a member, keep the role at Team member and pick a position such as Volunteer. Add a personal note if you want one; it goes in the email.
Many people. Choose Bulk invite and upload a CSV file. Choose whether you are inviting Members or Team members, match your file's columns, and check the preview of exactly who will be invited before anything is sent.
Each person gets an email with a link. If they do not have an OrganizeOS account yet, the link takes them to create one with the invited email address already filled in; if they do, it asks them to sign in. Either way they join your organization when they accept. They need to use the email address you invited.
The Invites page lists your invitations, with a filter by status. An invitation that has expired cannot be accepted, so send a new one.
Importing contacts into your CRM does not invite anyone. A contact is a record your team keeps; inviting someone gives them a member account. See Importing contacts.
Why this matters
Moving to OrganizeOS works best when your members move with you. When your members use the member space, the events, communities and donation pages your team builds in the workspace reach them directly, and their RSVPs, donations and volunteering come back to your team in one place.
