Door statuses
How the disposition codes canvassers choose from at the door are set up per organization, and how the counts-as-contact setting drives contact-rate metrics.
Door statuses are the disposition codes canvassers pick from when recording a result at each door -- things like "Spoke with target," "Left literature," or "Not home." Every organization's canvassing tool comes set up with a working set of these before you knock your first door.
For context on how canvassers use these statuses at the door, see Recording a door attempt.
Door-status properties
Each status has three properties:
| Property | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Label | The name the canvasser sees, for example "Spoke with target" or "Not home" |
| Color | A visual cue on the walk list map and in reports |
| Counts as contact | Whether this status increments your contact metrics |
Counts-as-contact logic
The "counts as contact" property drives the contact-rate figures on your canvassing dashboard. A status like "Spoke with target" typically counts; "Left literature" typically does not. This is what makes contact-rate metrics comparable across sessions, walk lists, and campaigns -- every canvasser's "not home" means the same thing in your reports.
Requesting changes
Adding a new status, renaming one, or changing what counts as a contact isn't self-serve today. If your campaign needs a status your default set doesn't cover, reach out to your OrganizeOS account team to have it added. Once added, it becomes available to every canvasser in your organization the next time they open a session. Statuses already recorded on existing attempts are not retroactively relabeled if a status is renamed later.
Why this matters
Well-defined door statuses make canvassing data consistent across your team. When every canvasser uses the same codes the same way, contact-rate metrics are comparable across sessions, walk lists, and campaigns, and field reports reflect what actually happened at the door.
