How to create products, set up variants and pricing, and import designs from Printful or Printify.

On this page

Products are what you sell in your shop. Each product can have a single price or a full grid of variants (size, color, and so on), and can be fulfilled by you or by a print-on-demand partner. Before anything here matters to a buyer, your organization needs to be verified and your shop connected -- see Setting up your shop.

Open Shop in your workspace sidebar, then Products.

The products list

Products are grouped into four tabs: All, Active, Draft, and Archived. Each row shows the product's image, title, price (or "from $X" if variants have different prices), and status. Select Edit on any row to open it.

Creating a product

Select New product. You'll fill in:

  • Title (required)
  • Description
  • Image URL
  • Status: Draft, Active, or Archived. Active products require a verified organization -- if you set a product to Active before your organization is verified, it's saved as Draft instead.

Fulfillment

Choose how the product ships:

  • Self-fulfilled: you pack and ship it yourself, tracked through ShipStation.
  • Printful or Printify: the order is sent to that provider automatically when a customer pays, and they print and ship it. If you choose Printify manually (rather than importing, see below), you'll need to enter the Printify product ID before the product can go live.

Variants

If your product comes in more than one option (size, color, etc.), select Add option, name it, and list its values separated by commas (for example S, M, L). Adding options generates every combination as a row below -- Small/Red, Small/Blue, Medium/Red, and so on. Each variant row has:

  • Price
  • Stock (self-fulfilled products) or Provider variant id (print-on-demand products) -- an active print-on-demand variant needs its provider variant ID filled in before the product can go live.
  • Active, a checkbox to include or exclude that specific combination from sale without deleting it.

For print-on-demand variants where a base cost is known, an estimated margin (price minus the platform fee and the provider's cost) is shown under the variant.

Select Create product (or Save changes when editing) to save, or Archive on an existing product to take it off the storefront without deleting it.

Importing from Printful or Printify

If you've connected Printful or Printify in Shop settings, the Products page shows an Import from Printful or Import from Printify button. That opens a list of your designs on that provider, showing a thumbnail, name, and variant count (already-imported designs are marked). Select a design to preview it -- you'll see each variant's retail price, the provider's cost, and the estimated margin -- then select Import as draft to create it as a draft product in your shop, ready to review and publish.

Why this matters

Getting a product's variants and fulfillment provider right up front avoids the two most common ways a sale goes wrong: a size or color a customer ordered doesn't actually exist as a purchasable combination, or a print-on-demand order can't be sent to your provider because a variant ID was never filled in. Reviewing margins before you publish, rather than after your first order ships, means your pricing already accounts for what it costs you to fulfill it.
