SMS outreach
How to run peer-to-peer SMS campaigns from your workspace, including 10DLC registration, opt-out handling, and the two-way inbox.
On this page
The SMS tool lets your team reach contacts by text through peer-to-peer assignments, where volunteers send messages individually, and a two-way inbox for replies.
Before you can send: 10DLC registration
Open Outreach in your workspace sidebar, then choose SMS under Texting. The SMS pages are desktop pages, and they need the permission to view SMS: owners and admins have it, and custom roles can include it. Team members without it do not see SMS in the sidebar. Before any message goes out, your organization must complete 10DLC registration: a carrier-required process that verifies your brand and campaign type. Sending texts from OrganizeOS arrives in a later update. Until then no message is sent (1:1 or peer-to-peer), even after your phone number, brand, and campaign are approved. Registration is self-serve directly in the product, on the Phone numbers page: open Outreach, then choose Phone numbers under Setup. That page needs the Manage numbers and registration permission, which owners and admins have. See Phone numbers and carrier registration for the full walkthrough.
Peer-to-peer (P2P) texting
For personal outreach at scale, run a P2P texting assignment. Admins create the assignment; volunteers work through their queue from the P2P page, which the P2P badge at the top of the SMS page opens, and each message is sent individually once sending is available. Completion is tracked per assignment. P2P texting, and the option for admins to text a single contact from their CRM record, follow the same 10DLC registration and opt-out rules. Neither sends anything yet: sending arrives in a later update.
Opt-outs, opt-ins, and the two-way inbox
TCPA compliance is enforced automatically. When a contact replies STOP (or STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, REVOKE, or OPT OUT), OrganizeOS records the opt-out for their number instantly and marks the conversation opted out, and the texting network sends the contact an automatic confirmation. Opted-out contacts are left out of SMS campaigns, and inbox replies to them are blocked. START or UNSTOP re-opts them in. No staff action required.
Inbound replies land in the SMS inbox, threaded per contact. Open it with the Inbox badge at the top of the SMS page. Replying from the inbox or from the contact's CRM profile arrives with sending in a later update.
Why this matters
Direct text contact has some of the highest open and response rates of any outreach channel. Keeping opt-out handling automatic means your team stays compliant without manual list hygiene.
