Exploring organizations near you
Find organizations, events, and campaigns near you in the OrganizeOS app, and choose the place it looks around.
Explore is where you find what you could be part of. Open the menu in the OrganizeOS app and choose Explore. The page shows organizations near you, events near you, and campaigns you can give to, with a search bar across the top for anything else.
Choosing where Explore looks
The chip under the search bar names the place Explore is looking around, for example "Near Madison, WI".
- The first time, the chip reads "Show what's near you". Tap it and allow location access, and Explore uses where you are right now.
- If you would rather not share your location, Explore uses the city, state, or zip code on your profile when you have one filled in.
- To look somewhere else, tap the chip and type a city or zip code, or choose "Use my location" or "Use my profile address". The same sheet sets how far out events are searched: 5, 25, 50, or 100 miles.
Your place stays on your phone. It is only used to find nearby events and organizations.
What you will see
- Organizations near you lists organizations that serve your county or state, closest matches first. Organizations you already belong to live on Home, so they do not repeat here. Tap "See all" for the full list, which you can narrow by type.
- Events near you lists upcoming in-person events within your radius, soonest first. Tap an event to see its details and RSVP.
- Campaigns lists active fundraising, with campaigns from your state first when there are enough. Tapping a campaign opens the organization's donate page.
Without a place, Explore shows organizations you might like and upcoming events from everywhere.
Searching
Type two or more characters to search. Results come in two groups: Everywhere, which searches public organizations and events, and In your organizations, which searches the channels, posts, communities, and volunteering inside the organizations you already belong to.
Opening an organization
Tapping an organization opens its profile in the app, with its description, upcoming events, membership tiers and leadership, and a Follow button so you can keep an eye on it without joining. Organizations you follow get their own card on Explore, "From organizations you follow", with their latest announcements, their next events and campaigns. See Organization profiles and following.
Free memberships join from the profile in the app; a membership with a price finishes on the organization's web page, which the profile opens for you. Giving to a campaign also happens on the organization's web page.
