Texting as a volunteer
How to work a P2P texting campaign from your organization's volunteer portal.
On this page
If your organization runs peer-to-peer (P2P) texting campaigns, you can pick up a batch of contacts and send messages yourself from the volunteer portal.
Finding your campaigns
Open Texting in the sidebar (under your organization's volunteer section). You'll see every P2P campaign assigned to you, with your overall progress at the top: how many contacts you've been assigned, how many you've completed, how many texts you've sent, and your response rate. Select a campaign to start working through it.
Working through your queue
Inside a campaign, you work one contact at a time. For each contact you'll see their name, phone number, and location, plus any tags your organization has applied. A message to send box is pre-filled with the campaign's script; you can send it as-is or edit it first — it may already include personalized details like the contact's name.
Once you send a message, recent messages with that contact appear right on the page, so you can see whether they've replied without leaving the queue. If a contact has already replied and your organization set up follow-up scripts, a picker lets you choose which one to send next.
Use Prev and Next to move between contacts, Skip to remove a contact from your queue without messaging them, and Mark done to close out a contact and move on. If your organization requires it, you'll need to tag the contact's response from a dropdown before you can mark them done.
Quiet hours
Campaigns can have quiet hours set by your organization (for example, no texts between 9pm and 9am). During quiet hours, sending is disabled — you'll see a banner explaining the window — but you can still tag responses, skip contacts, and mark them done.
When you run out of contacts
Once you've worked through every assigned contact, the page shows your session totals (messages sent, replies received) and a link back to your campaigns list.
Why this matters
Texting is often the fastest way an organization can reach a large list of contacts, but it only works if the people sending messages are actually volunteers doing the outreach personally. Working through your queue, sending scripted messages, and tagging responses accurately is what turns a list of phone numbers into real conversations — and real data an organizer can act on afterward.
