Phone banking as a volunteer

How to make calls for a phone bank campaign from your organization's volunteer portal.

On this page

If your organization runs phone bank campaigns, you can call assigned contacts and log the results directly from the volunteer portal.

Finding your campaigns

Open Phone Banking in the sidebar. You'll see your call activity for today (calls made, contacts reached, talk time) and every active campaign your organization has open to volunteers, each showing how many contacts have been reached out of the total and the campaign's daily call goal. Select a campaign to start calling.

Making a call

Selecting a campaign opens the caller interface with your next contact already queued: their name, phone number, location, and any tags your organization has applied. Choose Call to start dialing. The interface walks through call states — dialing, then connected, with a live call timer — and gives you Mute and End Call controls while connected. If you'd rather not call this contact right now, choose Skip instead to move to the next one.

While you're on the call, a call script appears alongside the dialer if your organization has written one, along with any survey questions to ask.

Logging the result

After you end a call, record what happened:

  • Disposition — Completed, No Answer, Busy, Voicemail, Wrong Number, Refused, Callback Requested, or Disconnected.
  • Support level — if your organization's script tracks it, rate the contact's support (Strong Support through Strong Oppose) for completed calls.
  • Survey answers — any questions your organization attached to the script.
  • Notes — free text for anything worth flagging.

Choose Save & Next Contact to log the result and move to the next contact in your queue.

When your queue is empty

If there are no more contacts to call in a campaign, the page lets you know your queue is empty and links you back to your campaigns list.

Why this matters

Every disposition you log becomes data your organization uses to plan the rest of the campaign — who to call back, who's already said no, and how close the campaign is to its goal. Accurate, honest logging (even "No Answer" and "Refused") keeps that picture real, which is what makes the next round of calls more effective than the last.
