Community and direct messages
How discussions, communities, and one-to-one messages work on the platform.
Beyond events and volunteering, OrganizeOS is a place to stay connected between asks. There are two distinct ways to talk with others.
Community
Community is for topic-based discussion that anyone in a community can see — questions, announcements, and ongoing conversation. Open Community in the sidebar to browse communities you have joined and discover new ones. You can post, reply, and react. Community is public to the members of that community, so it is the right place for conversations meant to be shared.
Direct messages
Messages are private one-to-one conversations. Use the Messages button at the top of the sidebar to start or continue a direct message with another person. Direct messages work across organizations — if you and another person both use OrganizeOS, you can message each other regardless of which organizations you each belong to.
Community vs messages — which to use
- Use Community when the conversation is useful to a group: a question others might have, an announcement, or a discussion.
- Use Messages when it is personal and meant for one other person.
Notifications
The bell icon at the top of the sidebar shows your notifications — replies, mentions, new messages, and updates from your organizations. Open Settings to choose which notifications you receive and how (in-app, email, or push).
Staying safe
Treat direct messages like any private conversation. If someone is behaving inappropriately in a community, use the report option so organization administrators can review it.
